Jkarlem : Dragon Candidate (to-be) « Thread Started on Oct 29, 2009, 8:55am »
Jkarlem "Do not speak unless you can improve the silence."
NAME: Jkarlem RANK: Dragon Candidate (to be Searched at Mavros Gather, either by an NPC or if someone is willing to roleplay this out), Journeyman Beast Healer AGE IN TURNS: 18 FAMILY: Jakarf (father) Alemya (mother) Akarlya (sister) DRAGON: candidate only as of yet
APPEARANCE: Jkarlem is a wiry young man - his lean figure belies his strength, which is much needed in his craft. He stands at only 5'11" and weighs around 150 pounds. His unremarkable brown hair he keeps shorn very short but often keeps his facial hair - at least a strip on his chin. Eyes are light brown with suggestions of gold flecks throughout the iris'. A small smattering of scarcely visible freckles lay over the bridge of his nose. EDUCATION/SKILLS: Jkarlem was taken as an Apprentice into the North Healer Hall at age 12. But when his masters came to realize he didn't have much affinity for animals and much more so for humans his duties were exchanged to the Beasthall. He is capable of reading but is not so skilled at writing. He can and will when pressed, but struggles with the task. Capable of treating many ailments that can strike beasts (and some few of their human counterparts) the boy walked the tables just a short turn ago when he was 17. ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
*BASIC PERSONALITY: While extremely quiet, Jkarlem is not shy. He is, rather, reserved and keeps his own council. Unassuming and steady he is not talkative and this underscored his ability as a Healer (for humans.) He is unflappable - nothing seems capable of shaking his stolid exterior. His emotions are not on display, but nor are they concealed. And he never allows them to get the better of him in their extremes (if he even has any extremes.) Affable and easy going, there are not many who could claim to dislike this young man. *FAULTS: Everyone who has know Jkarlem finds him likable, but each and every one of them has commented that he is much too quiet. Rarely speaking, some think he has a high opinion of himself. Which is likely true though he his not flamboyant about his arrogance. He values his solitude and silence very much; and will break it only if someone strikes him as intelligent. *STRENGTHS: Just the sort of person you would want in an emergency, Jkarlem is the epitomy of calm. Sedate in every moment nothing can incite panic into him. His affinity with animals is very strong and because of this, his presence can ease even the most direly injured creature.
FEARS: Jkarlem is privately terrified of failing at his craft, especially in his fathers eyes. The man is a Master Beastcrafter - and Jkarlem strives constantly to better himself for the sake of this man's approval. DREAMS: To attain Mastery at his craft.
*HISTORY: Jkarlem was born in the North to his parents, Jakarf and Alemya. With a journeyman beastcrafter as a father the family traveled nearly every Turn to different Holds and Halls so as a boy never knew the stability of a real home. It was during his seventh turn that he became very interested in healing when his little sister broke her arm during a game of Come Into My Weyr. The man who set Akarlya's arm fascinated Jkarlem so much that it was in that moment he decided he wished to be a Healer. Announcing this to his parents they only smiled at one another for the whims of a child.
But when he was 12 Jkarlem was still adamant about his desire to become a Healer and was then packed off to the Healer Hall. He spent two turns there, rising to a second level Apprentice before his Masters decided the healing of people was simply not for him. Instead, he showed real skill for dealing with injured and sick animals. Perhaps this talent was acquired by turns of helping his father with the breeding of stock runners and other beasts. Shifted to the Beast Hall it was here that Jkarlem truly found his niche.
The brunette boy was often mocked by his peers as he rarely spoke, and kept mostly to himself. But their ridicule did not earn them any response - simply ignoring them, and thus garnering their respect as the Turns passed. A Turn ago the boy walked the tables to become a Journeyman and has accepted an assignment on a contingent of island Holdings outside of the Mavros area. Though there are few beasts, they still have need of one. His first experience in the area will be the Gather of Mavros Weyr.
HOW MIGHT THIS CHARACTER EVOLVE DURING PLAY? I'd like to see someone cheerful enough to draw Jkarlem out of his stoney facade. And excite some sort of passion - whether anger, happiness, or sorrow - from the boy.
IN THE EVENT OF YOUR SUDDEN, UNEXPLAINED DISAPPEARANCE FROM THE SITE AT ANY POINT IN TIME, WHAT DO YOU WISH TO BECOME OF THIS CHARACTER AND ANY CREATURES THEY MAY IMPRESS? b. Turn them into an NPC who may be killed off or used for plot purposes but who will not be played by someone else.
