 A Weyrleader's Lament {Open}
« Thread Started on Jun 12, 2009, 7:11pm »

“I hate you!”
You said that one already, Mine. Exionth rumbled and shifted his bulk, sending near-constant glances back at the Weyr- he had a mate he really wanted to be with instead of out here with his fuming rider, but he knew better than to voice that fact. D’ze was angry enough already, after all.

“You had to fly after her, didn’t you?! You never flew after any of the Golds at Igen, sharding Bronze! If you had to chase a gold, why couldn’t it be one that isn’t the senior queen!?” D’ze was pacing, despite the fact that his leg was aching and threatening to cramp on him- he was too frustrated to realize the pain. “I can’t be a Weyrleader!”

Of course you can. I impressed you after all, and I was sure to win a gold flight. It just happened to be lovely Asurath’s… She is much better than any of those queens at Igen. Exionth’s eyes swirled with momentary contentment at the idea of the Gold, before he was again blasted by D’ze’s wrath. He threw his rider a disgruntled look, but D’ze refused to understand and leave things alone- no, he was too busy trying to deny what was simple fact.

“I can’t believe this… Why did she have to choose you? S’rad seemed like a decent fellow, Pharoth should have won. Or Gamath, B’rax has been here long enough…” This was awkward, inescapable, and D’ze hated it. Oria was a good enough Weyrwoman, from what little time he had had with her, but she wasn’t the prettiest woman out there. Definitely not what he was looking for in even a quick toss in the furs, let alone a half-turn-long partner! They would have to appear as a united front to the Weyr to rally against, and D’ze wasn’t the greatest pick for public speaking, or even any sort of Weyr loyalty. Shards, he had only been around for a few seven days!

Stop moping. You can’t change things. Exionth’s mind voice was sharp as he got tired of his rider’s thoughts- his tail lashed, an indicator of his foul mood that was only fed by D’ze’s emotions. Not that Exionth was going to stop D’ze- the Bronze was the whole reason he was in this mess!

Paperwork, Wing drills, making sure all was well with the Weyr… There was no way he was going to be able to cope with this without large doses of Fellis. And he’d be working closely with Oria- she had to have some wit to run this Weyr alone, what if she picked up on his habit? Things were looking worse and worse…

S’rad strolled through the lower caverns collecting a few items on his tray. Klah, wine, meat rolls, some slices of wherry and cheese, fresh bread. He was on his way to see the new Weyrleader, he ahd a feeling maybe D’ze would need someone at his side.

He couldn’t help but wonder how the man must be feeling, suddenly he was Weyrleader, everyone looking to him for guidance. He must be having a real panic. S’rad would of. He wouldn’t have known where to start. Pharoth was sitting on the ledge of their weyr snoozing in the sun, he seemed totally unworried about things. Oria would help him, what S’rad had seen of the Weyrwoman told him she was a very capable woman, but poor D’ze, he must be really feeling the stress.

Walking through the tunnels to the weyrs he arrived at the Weyrleaders. He rapped on the wooden surround, smiling as he looked at him, “you look as if you could do with a friend.” He said, holding the tray out and stepping in, “wanna talk about it?” he asked, offering the man some support.

If he had had a door, D'ze most certainly would have slammed it in S'rad's face. Not out of any hatred for the other bronzerider, of course- he didn't know him well enough for that- butin hopes of venting his frustration on something. The past wasn't a possible target but S'rad certainly was, and the urge to make the other as miserable as he was was certainly tempting...

Mine! Invite him in! You have not eaten, and Pharoth's is kind enough to bring food. Do not try and drive him away. Exionth saw right through him, of course, and D'ze felt his teeth grinding with his irritation. But to turn S'rad away now would just irk Exionth, and D'ze was not in the mood for the bronze to preach at him about being nicer.

"Uh. Come in, S'rad." Realizing he had been staring at the other for a long moment he stepped back to allow the other in to the weyr. It wasn't all that clean and tidy yet, but D'ze hadn't finished unpacking his belongings yet, and he wasn't about to apologize for it. Instead he took a seat at the small table he had found in the weyr, absently rubbing at his injured leg. He wasn't really looking forward to chatting with S'rad, but maybe it would help?

S'rad stood waiting for D'ze to invite him in. He could see the anger and annoyance in the Weyrleader's eyes. But he wasn't taking offence, he knew the poor man had suddenly had something thrown at him that he really hadnt either wanted or wasnt prepared for. When D'ze finally asked him in, S'rad nodded and headed to the table, placing the tray down.

"Quite a shock Weyrleader?" he said, reminding the man of who he was, but hoping he would open up and talk, what was that old saying, a problem shared was a problem halved, maybe he could help the new Weyrleader, or at least offer his friendship to the man.

D'ze winced at the title, running his hand through his hair with a rather dry look- was the other rubbing it in his face? No, for some reason the other Bronzerider just didn't seem the type of guy who would do something like that... But then again, D'ze wasn't the best judge of character.

"You can say that again. I had been hoping the older Bronzes would catch Asurath, not Exionth." He eyed the wine, before dismissing it and poring himself some klah- he wasn't much of a wine man, really. Hardly ever drank the stuff, really, preferring klah instead. "Would have been better choices too. I've never been Weyrleader material.."
